The Ace Driver Education Project was designed to assist Aboriginal people in NSW to gain a driver's licence.

Steps to a Learner's Licence provides the necessary information if you are applying for your licence for the first time, or if you are reapplying for a licence after a disqualification.

DEP Award
The DEP has won an "Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award" for 2005. This is a national award and 1 of only 10 for NSW. Details at www.aic.gov.au

RTA Road Safety
Visit the RTA Road Safety web pages to get useful safety tips and find out about their current road safety campaigns. Have a laugh at the 'speed and nobody thinks big of you' TV commercial.

Did you Know? it may be possible to get an easing of the 6 months requirement for Learners under 25 if they have a need to access medical support for themselves or a close member of the family. If anyone is trying to get this happening they need to speak to the Manager of their nearest RTA and see what they require,eg- Face to face interview and letter of support.

Did you know? that the compulsory 6 month period on your L's for people under 25 can be shortened if you have a job and there is no suitable public transport at the times you come and leave work. You need to have completed the 50 hours and have a support letter from your employer, or the project.

Latest Advice from the SDRO - If you are faxing application forms to the SDRO, be sure to follow up with a phone call to ensure they got your fax. Phone again in 6 days to ask if they have reached a decision - their number is 1300 655 805. This avoides the possibility of getting "lost" in the system.
